Newton School Committee To Vote On Mask Mandate

During the March 1 Special Meeting, committee members will review and discuss the Medical Advisory Group's recommendation.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton School Committee will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, March 1 to discuss the district’s mask policy.

During the meeting, committee members will review the Medical Advisory Group’s recommendation on whether or not Newton schools should continue to require face coverings for students and staff.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) let the statewide school mask mandate expire on Monday, Feb. 28 due to high vaccination rates. Now it is up to local districts to decide on what their mask guidelines will look like for the rest of the school year.
