Newton Scout Raises Nearly $13K To Help Local Veterans
Carlier Briere partnered with the Vietnam Veterans Workshop and New England Center and Home For Veterans as part of her Eagle Scout Project.

NEWTON, MA — A 13-year old Life Scout in Newton Troop 209 has raised nearly $13,000 to build winter clothing care packages for residents at the New England Center and Home for Veterans.
Carlier Briere partnered with the Vietnam Veterans Workshop and New England Center and Home For Veterans as part of her Eagle Scout Project, an opportunity for a Scout to demonstrate leadership while performing a project that benefits the community.
“As my project, I’m building each and every one of these veterans a winter clothing care package,” said Briere on her GoFundMe page. “ At a minimum it will contain a quality sweat shirt hoodie, sweat pants, wool socks and toiletry kit containing shaving and hygiene items.”

The New England Center and Home for Veterans has 275 beds and the Veterans fulling those beds are in desperate need of warm clothing and toiletries, said Briere.
"Sweat shirts and sweat pants are of extreme importance at this time of year because they can be used as pajamas during the cold winter nights in the shelter and as an extra layer of clothing during the day,” she said. "The donations I receive are tax deductible and will go directly toward buying the items mentioned above.“
