Newton Seeks Sculptures for Outdoor Festival of the Arts Exhibition

The sculptures will be on display at Newton City Hall from May 1 to August 1.

NEWTON, MA – The Newton Festival of the Arts is holding its first Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition this summer and is seeking artist submissions.

Any sculptural medium is allowed, provided it can be safely installed and will not require additional maintenance during the exhibition. All object-based sculptures must be safely mounted to the ground.

Artists at any stage of their career are encouraged to apply – joint applications will be accepted and the callout is not limited to Newton sculptors. Sculptures will be installed at Newton City Hall by the artist, with assistance from the City of Newton as needed. The work must be safe for nearby pedestrian traffic and sit on a triangular plot for the three-month duration of the exhibition.

A $100 stipend will be offered to each artist to help with transportation costs. Artists are responsible for transportation, installation and de-installation. The Newton Festival of the Arts committee will monitor the condition of the sculpture weekly; however, artists are responsible for repairs and maintenance.

Insurance coverage for personal injury to bystanders will be provided from May 1 to Aug. 1, though repairs will not be covered during installation, exhibition or de-installation.

A poetry component will also be included as part of the exhibition. Poets will be selected by Grey Held and Clara Silverstein to write pieces using the selected sculptures as inspiration. Contact Grey Held at GreyHeld@gmail.com with any questions regarding the poetry portion.
