Newton Student's App Hits Android Phone Market

Newton North sophomore Eli Bock has developed a game called "Space Kiwi" that has already been released in the iPhone market.

A few months after his original game debuted in the Apple App Store, Newton North sophomore is ready to expand the reach of his app. 

Starting in May, Bock's popular "Space Kiwi" game will hit the Android Market. 

"It's a really great opportunity," Bock said in a press release. "We've already enjoyed tremendous success on the iOS, and we feel we're ready to make the big jump to a new market."

The game is a product of Orro Apps, Bock's trademarked company. 

Bock, , launched his game Space Kiwi for the Apple App Store on December 13, 2011. The single-person shooter game uses the smart phone/tablet gyroscope to move the character back and forth as it dodges asteroids, villains and cherry bombs dropped by space ships.

, Bock explained that he designed all the artwork for the Space Kiwi characters, items and backgrounds, and animated the app using Adobe Flash. He also scored all the music for Space Kiwi and helped oversee a team of freelance programmers that helped him put the finishing touches on the game. 

The Android version of the Space Kiwi game will be free with an "in-app" ability to purchase.
