Newton Students Graduate From Bates College
Bates College graduated 469 students from 38 states and 43 countries at its May 27 commencement ceremonies.
NEWTON, MA â Bates College has announced its 2021 graduates, including three students from Newton who now hold bachelor's degrees.
Summer Dias, a 2017 graduate of Newton North High School and resident of West Newton, graduated after majoring in geology. Dias was a member of Sigma Xi, an honor society that recognizes excellence in scientific research.
Sarah King, a 2017 graduate of Newton South High School and resident of Newton Center, graduated Magna Cum Laude after majoring in psychology. In her first year at Bates, King received the Charles Dana Award, the highest honor Bates bestows on students in their first year. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an organization recognized as conferring the highest undergraduate academic honors and as the oldest Greek letter society in the United States.

Caroline Bass, a 2017 graduate of Newton North High School and resident of West Newton, graduated after majoring in biology.
Bates graduated 469 students from 38 states and 43 countries at its May 27 commencement ceremonies, which featured introductory remarks by President Clayton Spencer, who praised the graduates for their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Your perseverance allowed us to keep the college operating safely, and your lives moving forward, in the face of some pretty high hurdles," he said.
