Newton Throwback: Facelift for a 129-year-old Park

Restorations improve Farlow Park, Newton's oldest public park

Completed in 1888 on land donated by John Farlow, Farlow Park was the first public park in Newton. The park was designed in 1880 by George Frederick Meacham (famous for designing the Boston Public Garden) and is on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. Restoration is currently underway to dredge and and refill the pond and to build a new footbridge. Learn more about women who lived in the neighborhood around the turn of the century during our "Upstairs, Downstairs" walking tour August 15.
