Newton's Overnight Parking Ban Returns This Week

From Dec. 1 through March 31, parking on city streets is prohibited from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

NEWTON, MA — Newton's winter overnight parking ban will go back into effect from Wednesday, Dec. 1 through Thursday, March 31, said Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in an update Thursday,

During the parking ban, parking on city streets is prohibited from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Although the mayor was able to override the ban last winter due to the pandemic, that is not a possibility for this year.

"I was able to lift the ban last winter to ease the burden on college students and family members home during the pandemic under the COVID-19 State of Emergency declared by Gov. Baker," said Fuller. "The State of Emergency was lifted in June so that isn’t an option for this winter. Any permanent changes to the parking ban need to go through the City Council."
