Newtonville Resident Selected as NEWMAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week

Alexander Venditti, a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was also named WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week.

NEWTON, MA - Newtonville's own Alexander Venditti earned accolades from both his school and conference Monday for his performance on the diamond this season.

Venditti, a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was named the NEWMAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week as well as the WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week. The first baseman batted .611 last week with 10 runs scored and nine batted in as the Engineers won five of six and took home their second straight NEWMAC West division title.

This is Venditti's fourth weekly honor in his career; he shares this week's NEWMAC distinction with Babson College sophomore Mark Webber.

Venditti is also a contender for the conference triple crown, leading in home runs and RBIs with 13 and 55, respectively. He is currently second in batting average in the conference, hitting .441 on the season.

WPI will next take on Johnson & Wales University in Providence on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. This weekend the Engineers will host Wheaton College in a best-of-three NEWMAC Championship semifinal series Saturday and potentially Sunday.
