NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL PRESIDENT KERRY WATSON APPOINTED TO MASSACHUSETTS HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Kerry Watson, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, was appointed to the Massachusetts Hospital Association Board of Trustees at MHA's Annual Meeting in Chatham on June 12th.

As a trustee-at-large, Watson, along with the other MHA Board members, is charged with providing strategic direction with focus on broader public policy, socio-economic, and health issues affecting the healthcare industry. 

“I am honored to represent the collective interests of the hospital community in the Commonwealth as our healthcare environment continues to evolve,” said Watson. “The industry is facing a great deal of change and I look forward to helping my colleagues anticipate these challenges and develop creative and innovative solutions.”

Watson came to Newton-Wellesley Hospital in October, 2013 from the Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina, where for the past five years had been president of Duke Regional Hospital. 

At Duke, he was responsible for a 369-bed acute care hospital, which includes a rehabilitation institute, psychiatric and critical care units, an intensive care nursery, ambulatory surgical center, as well as the Watts School of Nursing.  His focus had been on improving clinical quality and building a culture of inclusion and respect. Watson was also Senior Associate Chief Operating Officer and Senior Operating Officer for ten years at Duke University Hospital and served as Director and then Assistant Vice-President at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring Maryland, where he was responsible for both clinical and support departments.

Earlier in his career, he held administrative leadership roles at Howard University Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.  He graduated from George Washington University with a degree in radiological sciences and health administration, and has received an advanced degree in organizational management.  

Watson is currently a member of the American Hospital Association (AHA) Regional Policy Board and AHA National Task Force on Variation in Healthcare Spending, as well as the American College of Healthcare Executives and National Association of Health Services Executives.

Watson resides in Boston with his wife Joanne.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is a full system member of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. (PHCS), a nonprofit organization that includes acute care hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, The North Shore Medical Center, and specialty hospitals McLean Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, and the community-based doctors and hospitals of Partners Community HealthCare, Inc.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital provides a wide range of services, including medical, surgical, obstetrical, orthopaedic, neonatal, pediatric and psychiatric care. Newton-Wellesley has been serving its community for over a century. The medical staff of the Hospital includes nearly 1,000 physicians practicing a full range of specialties. NWH is a major teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine and also has established post-graduate training programs for Harvard Medical School residents.
