The Newton cable station took home a Boston/New England Emmy on Saturday in the Outstanding Promotion Program - Single Spot category. The nomination came by way of a promo for the station's original show "The Folklorist"
"[The award] solidifies NewTV as a community resource and puts 'The Folklorist' on the map," said producer Jesse Kreitzer, who shares the Emmy win with "right hand man" and Production Manager Andrew Eldridge and the show's skilled storyteller, host John Horrigan.

The NewTV promos were up against material from Comcast SportsNet, Element Productions and WCVB-TV.
In an interview last month, Kreitzer explained that "The Folklorist" is a show that recreates and offers "an imaginative spin" on some of the iconic or rarely known folk tales in New England and American history. Both professional and non-professional actors work on the show's historic reenactments, which are retold by Horrigan.
The show also involves students in the Newton Public Schools, something Kreitzer has said is important to the show's value. As a result, "The Folklorist" features a "campfire" section of the show where students tell their own historic tales they have learned in school or that have been passed down to them from older generations.
Although "The Folklorist" has already been distributed to more than 200 access channels in the Northeast, Kreitzer said he hopes the Emmy will allow "The Folklorist" to spread even further.
The Emmy award, Kreitzer said, was "a great surprise" to him and the NewTV team. Nevertheless, it proves that NewTV's initiative to create in-house content is a move worth making, Kreitzer said.
Kreitzer thanked the NewTV Board of Directors and Executive Director Bob Kelly for making the decision to create original content at the station, a move that helped support the work behind "The Folklorist."
Kreitzer said the show's crew is currently working on a second episode. The first episode is available on the NewTV website.
"NewTV is honored to be recognized by the Television Academy. The team led by Jesse Kreitzer, Andrew Eldridge and John Horrigan are creative geniuses," said Kelly. "This Emmy award confirms what we already knew about these three…now everyone else knows."
