The title of this article may be hard to say, but it’s easy to find a place to picnic in Newton. The Garden City is chock full of lush green spaces and comfortable spots to plop down and enjoy a portable feast. Now that the weather is getting nicer, enjoy the opportunity to eat al fresco!
– Play a little b-ball, take a brisk fitness walk or pitch some horseshoes before settling down for your outdoor meal here. The Cove has picnic tables and grills which can be reserved for groups, and with the proper permit you can even bring in alcoholic beverages to make the mood more festive.
– Home to Newton’s Tuesday Summer , Cold Spring has lots of grassy areas to spread out your picnic blanket and lounge in the sun. And during the summer and early fall, you can buy fresh produce and local goodies and partake right on site.

Crystal Lake – A picnic table appears prominently in Crystal Lake Conservancy’s logo, though it is notable that no outside food or beverages are allowed right at the lake itself. But during the summer, Newton residents can purchase daily or seasonal passes to swim in the lake, and you shouldn’t eat so soon after swimming anyway.
- Right on the Charles and home to beautiful gardens and walking paths, this is a favorite spot of birders across Massachusetts. Picnic tables are located by the canoe launch and near the Nature Center, and a proposed partnership with the Newton Community Farm will make it even easier to eat locally.

- One of the best climbing structures in all of Newton is at this playground, so though it may be hard to get the kids to actually sit down and eat lunch, you can be sure they will be well entertained before and after. And you might even get a minute to relax and enjoy your outdoor dining experience.
