Pizzeria Coming to Former Waban Kitchen Location

A post on Stone L'oven Pizza Co.'s Facebook page confirmed the opening later this month.

NEWTON, MA – The rumors are true – a Massachusetts-based pizza chain will open its third location in Newton's Waban neighborhood.

Boston Restaurant Talk, citing a source, first reported a "coming soon" sign for Stone L'oven Pizza Co. in the window of the former Waban Kitchen space at 1649 Beacon Street. And according to a Facebook post right before the new year, we can look forward to a new pizza joint in Waban by the end of the month.

A tipster also confirmed to Boston Restaurant Talk that an updated sign says the eatery will open by the end of January.

Waban Kitchen's owner, Jeff Fournier, shut it down early last year – just a week before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the now-closed 51 Lincoln in Newton Highlands.

Stone L'oven Pizza's Waban location completes a Massachusetts trifecta for the company, which has locations in Canton and Brewster. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the restaurant offers a slew of stone-fired pizzas, as well as Italian staples such as pasta, calzones and paninis.
