Police to Charge Newton Man After Dog Locked in Hot Car

The dog "appeared to be dehydrated (with) white foam around its mouth" while locked in a car on Pearl Street Monday, police said.

Newton police said they will charge a man with animal cruelty after he allegedly locked his dog in his vehicle Monday afternoon.

Police said an officer responded to the Pearl Street municipal lot at about 1 p.m. when the temperature was higher than 80 degrees and found the dog in the car ”with only the windows slightly ajar.”

“The dog appeared to be in distress,” a police report reads. “The dog was panting and appeared to be dehydrated (with) white foam around its mouth.”

The dog was removed from the car and given some water, according to the police report.

The 59-year-old owner, whose identity was not released, contacted police about an hour later.

The dog was taken to Rotherwoods Animal Hospital.
