Police Officers Association to Hold $10,000 Raffle In Newton
Here's how it works: You purchase a $100 ticket, they enter you into a raffle for $10K. You lose, you help support an awards dinner. WinWin?

NEWTON, MA — You could win $9,900 this winter or donate $100 to the Irish-American Police Officers Association. The association is holding its annual drawing this December and is selling tickets for it now.
The effort is part of the association's main fundraising drive for its annual awards dinner, which honors police officers from throughout the region for outstanding work and acts of heroism. And the odds aren't terrible for this type of drawing: only 300 tickets are available. Someone will pull a ticket on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 440, 295 California St., in Newton. And voila. The name on that ticket will be $9,900 richer than they were before they donated the $100 to the event, which also happens to be the cost of the raffle ticket.
Participants are invited to attend the drawing, which will feature dinner and a performance from the association Pipes and Drums.

The drawing is a reverse raffle that will award a $10,000 grand prize, as well as $3,000 in additional cash and other prizes, including a $1,000 prize for the raffle's runner-up.
Officers at the dinner are recognized for a variety of categories, including investigations, valor, life-saving actions, community service efforts and humanitarian acts. The association also awards its Medal of Honor to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the preceding year.
