Rash of Car Breaks Reported on Boylston Street, Wrong-Way Driver Cited for OUI, Car and Motorcycle Thefts: Newton Crime

Friday, August 19

• A caller reported that two days prior, a group was parked at a Bridge Street residence while doing landscaping work behind the house. When they returned to the vehicle around 2:30 p.m. they noticed four tools missing from a trailer attached to the truck.

Saturday, August 20

• A past breaking and entering of a motor vehicle was reported on the 80 block of Boylston Street. The caller said her vehicle had been rummaged through sometime around 4:15 p.m., but nothing had been removed.

• An individual parked on the 80 block of Boylston Street overnight; the next day, the glove box of the unlocked car was open.

• James Michael Welch, 21, of Newton, was arrested on multiple default warrants.

• An individual parked in a driveway on the 130 block of Boylston overnight; missing from the unlocked vehicle was an iPad and a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses.

• A caller said he parked overnight in a driveway on the 20 block of Hammond Pond Parkway; when he came out the next morning, the center console, glove box and gym bag were rummaged through.

Sunday, August 21

• A man came into Newton Police headquarters to report his car stolen. He said he parked it on Commonwealth Avenue at 10 p.m. the night before and discovered it was missing at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

• Donearl Brown, Jr., 27, of Roxbury, was arrested around 1 a.m. after an officer noticed a car in the wrong lane of traffic. The officer pulled over and the vehicle corrected itself; police pulled the car over on Commonwealth Avenue just west of Chestnut Street. Brown was issued citations for operating under the influence of alcohol and a marked lane violation.

Monday, August 22

• A caller reported his black 2011 Honda motorcycle stolen from his driveway between 11:30 Sunday night and 9 a.m. Monday morning.

• A resident of Hammond Pond Parkway said someone through a green empty beer bottle at his parked Lincoln between 12:03 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday morning. The rear trunk lid was chipped, he told police.

• Police conducted a routine query of a motor vehicle operator, who had an active default warrant out for her arrest in Dudley. Shaleesha Mae Rice, 28, of Fitchburg, was taken into custody on a warrant charge of larceny over $250.

• A caller reported a missing bike that was placed on a front stoop at Dedham Street and Meadowbrook Road August 12 at 10 p.m. An hour later, the bike was gone and another bicycle was left in its place.
