SAT Blunder Voids 15 Students' Scores
A proctor at Newton South High School mistakenly allowed students to go 10 minutes over time.

NEWTON, MA - An SAT proctor's error has resulted in 15 Greater Boston students having their scores voided.
The students were given 10 extra minutes to complete the March 5 exam by mistake, the Boston Globe reported. They will be given the opportunity to retake it this Saturday at Newton North High School, where it was originally administered.
Newton South Principal Joel Stembridge told the Globe that about 350 students had shown up to the school to take the newly-redesigned test.

Newton South frequently serves as an SAT testing site, though proctors are not hired by the school and instead are commissioned by the Educational Testing Service.
The proctor quickly realized the gaffe and reported it to the site administrator. ETS was then notified and the exams were voided, a spokesman told the Globe.

This is the first year the exam is being administered after an overhaul combined the reading and writing sections, made the essay optional and returned the maximum score to 1600.
