The Newton Royals took on the Beverly Indians Friday night at Brandeis University sending Pitcher Jimmy Selig to the hill and he was nothing short of dominant. The Royals bats provided plenty of offense scoring 8 runs on 11 hits.
The Royals got it started in the top of the first inning when Catcher Ramon Pascual led off the game with a double. Center fielder Joe Cloutier reached on an error and three batters later, with two outs, Selig and Second baseman Colin Walsh hit back-to-back RBI singles. Shortstop Nick Smith followed with another RBI single scoring Selig and an error in centerfield allowed Walsh to score all the way from first.
In the top of the third, First baseman Scott Weber and Selig singled to open up the inning. Walsh ripped a double to deep right centerfield scoring another run. Smith lined a ball to centerfield and another costly Braves error allowed Selig and Walsh to score. Weber added an RBI single in the top of the seventh and on the Braves' fourth error of the night, another run scored making it 8-0. Pascual, Bryan Weber, Scott Weber, Selig, and Walsh each went 2-4 and combined to go 10-20 with 7 runs scored and 4 RBI.

Selig was nearly perfect all night pitching a complete game shutout. He allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks while strking out 13. He earned his 20th career RRBL win and helps bring the Royals within 1/2 game of first place.
The Royals take on the Medford Titans in their third and final meeting of the regular season this Sunday July 14th at 2pm at Brandeis University.
