Shoplifting GPS Units from CVS; Arrest for Assaulting Officer: Newton Police
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 19
- Police responded to Walgreens on Beacon Street for a shoplifter who was allegedly opening boxes and pocketing the contents. An employee said that he saw the suspect open packages of GPS trackers and put them in a front pocket of her sweatshirt. Saranda Wallach, 52, 1589 Beacon St., Brookline, was arrested and charged with shoplifting and served a non trespass order.
- Police responded to the area of Sheridan Street at Adams Ave. A query showed that Samantha Jean Clark had an outstanding default warrant out of Brighton District Court for assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, trespassing. Samantha Jean Clark, 28, 15 Birch St., Waltham, was arrested and charged.
Incidents, Oct. 20
- A resident reported that two blue barrels were missing from her residence. She contacted Newtonâs City Hall for replacement barrels and they requested she file a police report first in order to start the process for new barrels.
- A resident from Start Road said that her blue trash barrel is missing.
- Police responded to the Newton YMCA for a stolen bike. A man stated that sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m., the bike, a white Univega road bike with black handle grips, which was cable locked to the bike rack near the steps, was stolen.
