Snowblower, Lawn Mower Stolen from Store; Fake Bills: Newton Police Log

Oct. 30
- Police responded to Eastern Mountain Sports on Needham Street for a reported suspect attempting to pass counterfeit money. The reporting person stated that a Hispanic woman with light shirt, jeans, black purse, wearing an iPhone ear bud had just attempted to pass three $100 counterfeit bills. The employee said when he refused to them, she left and said that she would go get change. The bills felt âstickyâ and coated with something.
Oct. 31
- Police responded to Four Walls, where an employee noticed when she came in around 11 a.m. That morning someone had spray painted on the side of the building in neon white paint.
- Police were dispatched to Chestnut Street - Brass Buff Antiques - for a reported larceny of a fireplace screen. The employee said that he placed a tri-fold 22-inch high fireplace screen with a brass rail on the top in front of the store.

- Police responded to Tremont Street for a past breaking and entering to a garage. The reporting party said that sometime on Friday night through today, people entered the unlocked detached garage and stole his red Toro Lawn Mower, estimated value $400. This is the second theft from garage in the week. A snowblower had been stolen, too.
- Police were on patrol in the area of the Hotel Indigo on Grove Street. Police spotted a 2013 Hyundai sedan pull out of the Hotel Indigo at a high rate of speed. The vehicleâs license plate lights were both defective. Police pulled out and attempted to pull the car over. Police were able to catch up and stop the vehicle on Washington Street near the intersection of Quinobequin Road. The driver did not have his license on him, and was later identified. The front seat passenger was also not wearing a seatbelt. David Fernandes, 23, 28 Roxbury, was arrested and charged with failing to wear a seatbelt, defective equipment and operating after suspension.
