Stolen Northface Sweatshirts, Pizza: Newton Police

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 2

  • Police were on patrol in the area of Chestnut Street and Moffat Road, spotting two vehicles pulled on the sidewalk of Chestnut Street. They appeared to be involved in a crash. Police conducted a search of the operator of a vehicle involved in the crash, and the OLN came back as having a suspended license. Rhina Mancia had two warrants out for her arrest. Rhina Mancia, 34, 145 Essex St., 2, Chelsea, was arrested and charged with warrants: unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, failing to signal, operation a motor vehicle with suspended registration, uninsured motor vehicle, no inspection sticker, failing to yield, operating with suspended license.
  • Police responded with several other units to 225 Boylston St. (Bloomingdales) for a report of multiple shoplifters that were still int he store. Loss prevention shared a video of three heavyset black females, one of which concealed multiple unknown items underneath her clothing. Police made contact with two of the suspects and dispatch ran a check on both. One had a default warrant out of Lynn District Court. She stated she had no items police should know about, but when police searched, they found two Northface children’s jackets, one which was stuffed in her bra and the other in the rear of her pants. Chantel C. Carney-Henderson, 24, 45 Magnolia St., Dorchester, was arrested and charged with shoplifting by asportation.

Oct. 3

  • Police took a report for fraud, with a resident saying she has a lease on an apartment at Charlesbank Road. She wants to sublet the apartment so she put an ad on Craigslist. She received a response by a party who sent her a check for $3,500. She wired him $2,200 dollars through Moneygram and then was told by the bank that it was a fake check and bounced. Moneygram launched an investigation into the incident and was advised to contact her bank about the fraud as well.
  • Police responded to Wegmans at 200 Boylston St. for a female being detained in the security office for shoplifting. The suspect was spotted in the food court grabbing two slices of cheese pizza valued at $6. She then took a bite out of one of the slices and placed the plate inside her bag. She then exited the food court without purchasing those items through the liquor section of the store. She was issued a no trespassing order. Female is 20 from Mattapan.
