A Taste Of Newton In Photos
Here's a look at what food showed up for the Newton-Needham Chamber event at the Newton Marriott April. 9.
NEWTON, MA — For more than two dozen years the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce has invited local restaurants bars and caterers to come to a community tasting event. This years event featured 40 local restaurants. Here are a sample of who showed up:

The Social has been around for about 4 and a half years.
What's it known for? Cocktails and bar, but also right now the shareable dishes are hot, says co-owner Bill Costa. That said, so too is the chef's new veggie burger and seasonal specials and a focus on the fresh ingredients.

- Del Frisco's Grille

Del Frisco's opened in November 2013 in Chestnut Hill.

Most popular on the menu? The Cheese Steak Eggrolls, and the Filet Mignon and then the cheese burger.
But what's that in the picture? Pan-seared scallops with goat cheese polenta, blistered tomato chermoula with pine nut gremolata ($32). The scallops are local, says Greg Warning, executive chef. "We try to bring local flare," he said.

Cabots, of course, has been in town for 49 years, says Joe from Cabot's. And it's one of the restaurants that have been coming to the chamber event for the past two decades.
Most popular flavor? "Old fashioned vanilla. It goes with everything," said Joe who himself is a fan of the coffee heath flavor.
Nearly 50 years is a long time: "We see a lot of families bring children to Cabot's who then grow up and get married and bring their own children. So we get a lot of fond memories here," he said.

Rancatore has been in Newton for the past four years, though it's been in the region for 32 years.
Top flavor: Vanilla. "The five year old girls love it," said Joe Rancatore.
Hidden gems? Khufi, it's inspired from Indian pudding with cardamom, pistachio and almonds. They've also got a mango-papaya and turmeric.

Moldova Restaurant opened two years ago.
It's family run and the most popular item on the menu? The Roast Lamb Stew.
What's in the picture? Roasted Eggplant mix.

Seasons 52 has been in Newton for the past 4 and a half years.
Most popular item on the menu? Flatbreads and Scallops
Why bring the desserts to the event? "They're our bookends. No experience is complete without our mini indulgences," said Jon F.

Stone'L'Oven opened about a year ago in Newton.
Famous for its specialty pizza - the one with Fig and Prosciutto ($15.99/ $19.99) with fig and balsamic jam, prosciutto, caramelized onions, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese.

Whoops opened in December in Newton Center.
What's it sell? French Macaroons and other pastries in boxes, in pyramids etc. they also have a coffee service.

- Olivia's Bistro

Olivia's Bistro: Opened 14 weeks ago on Adam's Street in Nonantum.
Known for: Wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas and spins on Italian classics with a focus on fresh and local foods.
Best seller? Executive Chef John Hanlon says it's the Sausage Pizza or the Pappardell Bolognese.
