Tractor-Trailer Falls Into Charles River In Newton: Police
The incident took place just before noon near the ramp from I-95 to the Mass Pike.

NEWTON, MA — A tractor-trailer truck carrying United States mail fell into the Charles River Saturday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The incident took place just before noon near the ramp from I-95 to the Mass Pike, said police.
The Newton Fire Department told drivers to avoid the area of Route 128 North near Route 30 and the Mass Pike t0 128 North. Weston police and fire also responded to the scene.

Police said the driver of the vehicle could not swim and was standing on top of the truck when they arrived. Firefighters brought him ashore and he was transported by Newton Medic 2 to Brigham and Women's Hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported.
The State Police Dive Team was on scene later in the afternoon assisting in the recovery of the tractor-trailer. U.S. Postal Inspectors were also notified of the incident.
