Village Of Nonantum Highlighted On Chronicle

Are you ready for some fun facts about the Lake?

NEWTON, MA — From the hand-made sausage at DePasquale's to fresh filled cannoli at Antoine's, Channel 5's Chronicle highlighted the color that lifers already know well about the village of Nonantum, or the Lake.

Some fun facts? A lot of family owned businesses here. The Ace hardware store has only had two owners in the past 128 years. DePasquale's on Watertown Street will celebrate a century as a family business, next year. Steve DePasquale's great-grandfather handed the business down to his father who handed it down to him, according to the Chronicle.

The tradition doesn't end there: Nonantum has its own language; its own annual Christmas party with an 18-foot tall Santa, the Nonantum Village Day in June, and an annual Italian festival in July. It's also got one of the oldest synagogues in Newton.
