The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, April 8

  • Police were called to the Biltmore Bar & Grille after a woman reported her car was broken into. She told police that she had parked her 2010 Lexus RX350 in the rear of the building around noon the day before. She returned to the car, which was believed to be unlocked at 1:30 p.m. that day and noticed the driver's side rear door light on. Upon driving home she noticed that her laptop was missing from the backseat floor on the driver's side. The laptop is an HP 745 EliteBook model.
  • A woman told police that on Wed., April 6 her son had his lacrosse equipment stolen from the boys' locker room at Newton North High School. She said that on Mon., April 4 at around 6:15 p.m. he left his bag in locker #2 in the locker room. When he returned to pick it up two days later at around 2:30 p.m., the bag was no longer in his locker. This is reportedly the same locker he has used for athletics since September. The bag is described as an orange duffel bag with the words "penguin" and "prime time" on the outside. Inside of the bag was all of his lacrosse equipment - cleats, pads, a helmet, a stick and gloves.
  • Police responded to Brass Buff Antiques at 977 Chestnut St. for a report of a past larceny. A man told police he believed a 4-by-4 inch brass bell was stolen from his store. He said the last time he remembered seeing the bell was a month ago, but he was not sure when it was stolen.
  • A woman told police her iPhone 6 plus was stolen from the Williams School between 3 and 3:30 p.m. along with her keys, driver's license and three credit cards. The items had been left on a table in the workshop area near the door while she attended to her son for a few minutes. She tried to locate her phone by calling it, but it had already been turned off. She then notified her credit card companies and disconnected her phone.
  • A 33-year-old man from Newton was arrested and charged with open and gross lewdness, as well as assault on ambulance personnel after officers encountered him walking naked on the Centre Street side of the First Baptist Church. He is expected to face charges in Newton District Court.

  • Jean Nixon, 54, of Dorchester was arrested after being pulled over for crossing the center lines on Lexington Street. The officer ran her license and determined it had been suspended. She was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended license and a marked lanes violation.
  • Police arrested four 18-year-old men for allegedly breaking into the vacant St. Philip Neri Church on Beacon Street. When officers arrived at the church they found three of the men inside a red Audi and one male outside of the vehicle in the rear parking lot of the church. Police noted several signs around the church indicating it is private property, and upon entering found two fire extinguishers that had been tampered with and two broken windows on the outside of the building. Officers seized beer, knives and fake IDs from the men and charged them with breaking and entering day time for a misdemeanor and possession of liquor under the age of 21. In addition, two of the men were charged with possession of a fake ID.
  • Police responded to the Gucci store at 225 Boylston St. for a report of a past larceny. Around 7 p.m. the day before, a man and a woman stole three scarves valued at $465. According to a surveillance video, the woman came into the store, walked around and stopped at the drawers where the scarves were on display, pulled the scarves out of the drawers so that they would be hanging out and then left the store. Minutes later, the man came into the store, walked around until an employee was no longer in sight, walked over to the drawer of scarves and placed three into his shopping bag. He then left the store quickly. The female suspect is described as white, with blind shoulder-length hair, wearing a black jacket and black pants, and carrying a red purse; the male suspect is described as white, with brown or blond hair, wearing a blue and white plaid shirt, blue jeans and a dark-colored scally cap.
