Quincy Man Charged in Newton Stabbing Held Without Bail

Chad Kirby, 36, was arraigned Wednesday.

NEWTON, MA – The suspect in a knife attack outside of a West Newton pharmacy was ordered held without bail Wednesday and must undergo a mental health evaluation.

Chad Kirby, 36, of Quincy, faces charges of assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a stabbing outside of CVS Pharmacy on Watertown Street. Police found the victim, a 53-year-old Watertown man, bleeding from a head wound. He was able to walk to the pharmacy, where someone called police, according to WBZ.

Witnesses told police that Kirby, who was standing across the street, had allegedly stabbed the victim, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's office. He was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition.

Kirby will next appear in court March 6.
