What can osteopathy treat?

Many potential patients call our office with the same question, “I have _________, can Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment help me?” The truth is, that osteopathic medicine is probably the most comprehensive and inclusive form of healthcare around. Osteopathic training focuses on the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit and as such, has far reaching benefits for a variety of maladies. Of course, people who suffer from back and neck pain experience amazing results from osteopathic treatment but there are so many more people who can stand to benefit from this healing modality. These groups include but are not limited to:

·         Pregnant women & Infants - In addition to relieving back pain associated with pregnancy, women who receive osteopathic treatment while expecting, experience fewer problems during labor and delivery. Likewise, infants who are provided with osteopathic care spend less time in the neonatal intensive care unit. http://bit.ly/1lkiiJp

·         Children  -  Osteopathic treatment has repeatedly been found to reduce the occurrence of acute ear infections. Children under the care of an osteopathic physician require less use of antibiotics and decreased rates of tympanostomy (a surgical procedure where tubes are placed to allow drainage). http://1.usa.gov/1hJntwW

·         Athletes - OMT encourages a return to full functionality and range of motion post-fracture or soft tissue injury. In fact, even pre-competition use of OMT was found to improve athletic performance in a study conducted on the impact of osteopathic manipulation on Division I football players. http://1.usa.gov/1d6gbPj

These are really just a handful of issues that osteopathy has been proven to help. Through this blog, we hope to share information on the benefits of OMT to your overall health and wellbeing. Check our testimonial page and give us a call to see how osteopathic medicine can benefit you!
