What You Need To Know: Tonight's Newton Finance Committee Meeting
The meeting will take place Monday, August 2 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton Finance Committee is set to have a busy meeting Monday evening, with a noteworthy agenda up for review at its 7 p.m. virtual meeting.
As part of this week's agenda, the committee will review requests to amend the City of Newton Ordinances to prohibit the carrying of firearms in city buildings, increase the amount for reconstructing the Newton Library parking lot by $37,500, improve a number of sidewalks, driveway aprons, and curbs, and borrow over $20 million from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority Local Water System Assistance Program.
Committee members will also review a request to allow Newton North High School TIGER permit holders to park in the Austin St. municipal lot for free on school days and requests to accept and expend $1,250 from the Mass Humanities to produce to Frederick Douglass reading of “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” and $150,969 from the MassDot's Shared Streets and Spaces program.

Some other notable items up for review include requests approve a recommendation from the Community Preservation Committee to appropriate $441, 775.29 from the Community Preservation Act FY22 Historic Resource Reserve Fund Account to the control of the Planning & Development Department to complete the Grace Episcopal Church Tower Restoration project and approve a request to appropriate $643,215 of Inclusionary Zoning funds to the Newton Housing Authority to create 55 new units of affordable senior housing at the new Haywood House.
