What's open and closed on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday, Jan. 1.

NEWTON, MA -- As you’re preparing to ring in the new year, we have put together a list of holiday hours and closings. Happy New Year!

Closing early on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31:

  • The Newton Free Library closes at 4 p.m.

Closed on New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1:

  • Town offices: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Library: Closed
  • Post Office: Closed
  • Restaurants: Open at owner’s discretion
  • Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion
  • Supermarkets: Open at owner’s discretion
  • Liquor stores: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Gas stations: Open
  • Movie theaters: Open

There is no no trash and recycling collections on Friday, Jan. 1. Collections will be one-day delayed after January 1. Holiday tree pickups will occur weeks of Jan. 4 and Jan. 12.
