William James College Hires Paul Block

Block to serve as Associate Professor of Leadership and Management

William James College , a leader in educating mental health professionals, announced Paul Block, Ph.D. has been hired as an Associate Professor of Leadership and Management for the Clinical Psychology Program.

In his new position, Dr. Block will teach an introduction to healthcare reform with a focus on its implications for psychological practice as well as the leadership and management skills psychologists need to be effective. Dr. Block will also develop training opportunities that will give students the skills they need for leadership and management roles when they enter the field. Dr. Block’s areas of expertise include healthcare reform, the role of behavioral health in healthcare, healthcare and human service management, and business practices for healthcare.

“I am honored to welcome Dr. Paul Block to our academic faculty at William James College,” said Nicholas Covino, PsyD, president of William James College. “His experience in and passion for healthcare will enable us to explore an important aspect of mental health.”

Prior to joining William James College, Dr. Block spent 13 years as Director of the Psychological Centers, a Rhode Island agency that worked to bring mental health services to doctors’ offices and community settings with direct access to the people who were in need of those services. He later served Vice President for Behavioral Health at Riverside Community Care in Dedham, Massachusetts.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to support the training efforts of the faculty and staff at William James College,” said Dr. Block. “Our students are entering a quickly evolving healthcare system and I hope to prepare them for what lies ahead so they can build and implement a successful healthcare system for us all in the years to come.”

Dr. Block holds a bachelor’s in philosophy and with honors in psychology from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from New York University.
