Woman Lifts Expensive Jackets, Disappears Into Mall Crowds: Newton Police
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 21
- Police responded to Theodore Road for a report of larceny of a bike. The reporting person said that he typically leaves his bikes in the driveway overnight and noticed one went missing sometime last week, but was unable to recall the exact date. Then, around 8:30 a.m. on this morning, his father noticed another bicycle missing from the driveway. They do not know who might have taken the bicycles, but believes it was the same person. Both bikes are Trek brands - one was light blue and white and the other was black and red.
- Police responded with several other units to City Sports on Boylston Street for a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred. The store manager stated that at around 8:30 p.m., she saw a white female in her early to mid 40s, approximately 5â4â with a thin build, wearing a brown fedora type hat and dark colored puffy winter vest, enter the north entrance of the store. She said that she noticed the woman acting erratically, and seemed to be avoiding store employees. She watched her for 5-10 minutes and noticed that the woman picked up a black menâs North Face jacket ($199 value) and placed it over her arm, as well as a womanâs Patagonia black sweater ($119 value) and place it in what appeared to be an old Pottery Barn bag that she was holding. The employee called mall security. As soon as mall security arrived, the female left out of the south entrance of the store (Route 9 side) without paying. She and security officers tried to follow her, but she disappeared into a large crowd of people coming from the movie theater next door.
