NEWTON, MA - The following are excerpts from the Newton police log.
Dec. 1
- A resident reported that on Sunday around 6:30 p.m., two black males entered the store and began looking around at different purses and suitcases. The two males then split up and one went toward the belts and the other to the hats. The pair then left in a hurry, out toward Route 9 exit. Employees realized what was missing after they did an inventory of the store. The following items were taken: men’s hat diamante pattern $145; men’s hat camel cashmere $290; men’s knit hat with web $265; men’s belt $325; men’s belt $395; total loss of $1420. One male was described as approximately six-foot tall thin wearing a brown skully hat and brown jacket. The second was described as 5’10” tall wearing a blue skully hat.
- Police were dispatched to Duncklee Street for a report of a breaking and entering to that residence. The woman said she returned home about 20 minutes prior, walked through the front door, and heard footsteps through the kitchen leading out the back door. The home owner followed the noise of the steps to the back door where she saw the door ajar. She realized the suspect had just fled out the back. She stayed in and checked the kitchen area for about 20 minutes. The suspect had fled just out of sight before she made it to the back door. The woman pointed police to a mini canvas-style square container that contained prescription medications. It was zipped shut and locked with a mini combination lock, but had been forced open by the suspect(s). A handful of pills were missing from the now empty bottle. In the upstairs bedroom, a jewelry case on the top shelf of the closet was disturbed. Reported stolen by the home owner was a wire, gold platinum necklace, one pair of diamond stud earrings, one pair od diamond cuff earrings and one 14K gold ring. She said her iPad may have been stolen as well; it was on the top of her bed.
