Native Sun, a North Attleboro cannabis dispensary located at 1320 S Washington St, will honor the life and memory of Katie Malkowski this August with a tree planting ceremony and a donation supporting a close friend's charity race in her name.
Katie Malkowski was an artist, a Native Sun guest, and a friend to all, including the entire Native Sun team. A regular at Native Sun artisan markets, Katie sold her handmade paintings and sea glass jewelry through her small business, Silly Goofy Girl Shop. Her creativity, kindness, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met — including the Native Sun team, several of whom still treasure handmade pieces of her artwork, from sea glass necklaces to a hand-painted magnet that reads “Be Nice or I’ll Cry.”
"Katie's radiant smile and good vibes were always a joy to have at Native Sun, and we are grateful to have known her," said Nikkie Hanley, Director of Retail for Native Sun. "Planting this tree and supporting Lilly's run are small ways we can honor someone who brought so much light into our store and our community.”
Tree Planting Ceremony On Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., Native Sun will plant a tree in Katie's honor at the Martin Conservation land, located at the end of Wild Acres Road in North Attleboro. This will be the second tree Native Sun has planted at the site since adopting the land, where the Native Sun team volunteers monthly to help keep the grounds clean.
Supporting Lilly's Run in Katie's Memory Native Sun is also making a donation to support Lilly Ramundo, a close friend of Katie's, who will be running the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race in Katie's memory. Ramundo shared what Native Sun meant to Katie, and to her: "Native Sun North Attleboro holds a very special place in my heart. Katie always spoke so highly of the kindness of the Native Sun team. Just a few days after part of her tumor was removed, I had the chance to help her at Native Sun, and it's a memory I'll always treasure. Walking through your doors now reminds me of her creativity, resilience, and the joy she found in sharing her work with others."
