Unofficial Mayor of North Andover: Submit Nominations

We're launching a month-long contest to determine who should be the town's unofficial mayor.

You may have heard speculation about it, and yes, it's true. North Andover Patch is having an Unofficial Mayor of North Andover contest!

North Andover has a town government with an appointed town manager instead of an elected mayor. But what who is the person who most represents North Andover? Who is the person everyone knows in town?

We all know there are plenty of contenders. People who dedicate their lives to the town, who work tirelessly to make the town a better place. People who seem to be as much a part of the community's fabric as the Old Common or the Stevens Estate.

Nominations

So we want you to decide who among them should be the "Unofficial Mayor" of North Andover. The first step is to gather nominations.

So if you know someone who fits the ideal of an unofficial mayor, send an email to Bryan.McGonigle@patch.com to nominate them. Include a paragraph or two (or more, if you like) describing why that person should be the unofficial mayor.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, April 13.

Election

Nominations will be announced Monday, April 16. There will then be an online poll in which readers can vote daily for the candidate of their choice until Friday, April 27.

The winner will be announced Monday, April 30.

The Rules

  • A nominee must be real and human. So Bart Simpson, Harry Potter and the wonderful animals at Smolak Farms do not qualify.
  • A nominee must be a resident of North Andover.
  • A nominee must not be a current elected public official. Those in appointed offices are allowed.
  • A nominee must also not be a current candidate for elected office.
  • A nominee must be at least 18 years old.
  • A nominee must agree to be in the contest. If they don't want to be Unofficial Mayor, then we don't want to force them.
  • This is a Patch feature and is not affiliated with the Town of North Andover. This is not an official election, and the winner will not have any official title in town or actual power over the town's government or its people. But hey, it's still pretty cool.

So let's get those nominations and see who the Unofficial Mayor of North Andover 2012 is!
