Baker Taps North Andover Town Manager For Comptroller
Andrew Maylor will step down as North Andover town manager for "a once in a career opportunity" after seven years on Feb. 17.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker named North Andover Town Manager Andrew Maylor the state's new comptroller. In a statement, Maylor said he will step down from his current position on Feb. 17, and that selectmen will begin the process of choosing his replacement when they meet Jan. 22.
"This opportunity came as somewhat of a surprise and my decision to accept the offer from the Governor was in no way an easy one," Maylor said. "Working in North Andover for the past seven-plus years has been the best professional experience of my career."
Maylor replaces Thomas Shack. As comptroller, Maylor will serve as the state's top financial officer and oversee more than $60 billion in state spending. " This is truly a once in a career opportunity," Maylor said.

"Andrew's extensive experience in the public sector overseeing multi-million dollar budgets, managing operations and establishing capital improvement and financial plans make him extremely well qualified to serve as Comptroller," Baker said in a statement. "I am confident that Andrew will bring the level of transparency, integrity and accountability necessary for this job."
Baker also thanked Shack, who was appointed to the nonpartisan post in May 2015.

Maylor was the key point person in leading the local recovery effort following the Sept. 13 gas explosions in North Andover, Andover and Lawrence. Under Maylor, the town earned a AAA bond rating, implemented a capital improvement plan and built up its reserves.
"Perhaps more important than these achievements, is the unwavering sense of commitment, collaboration, and creativity that Mr. Maylor brought to work every day, which has helped make North Andover become a great place to work and live," North Andover Board of Selectmen Chair Regina Kean said. "While the loss of Mr. Maylor will be felt from Sharpners Pond Road to Waverly Road, we can be comforted in knowing that his strengths will serve not only us, but everyone in the Commonwealth, exceptionally well as the new Comptroller."
