Solemates&rsquo; origin began with Erin mentioning to her husband, Ken that &ldquo;Newburyport needs a shoe store, and I think you should open one". The idea took root, and when a store space became available across the street from Shine, Ken took this as a sign and opened Solemates. Solemates features Gola, Birkenstock, New Balance, Sam Edelman and Oncept, among other top brands. Erin and Ken conduct their buying as a team so that the clothing and shoes work together. Now both distinctive boutiques will be housed together at 8 State Street.
&ldquo;We met 31 years ago when we were both working at City Sports in Boston. Owning stores together in the town where we live is a full circle moment for us.
