Haverhill Man Pleads Not Guilty To Fatal Drive-By Shooting
Prosecutors said a 27-year-old shot into a 20-year-old's Dodge truck May 17.

HAVERHILL, MA — A Haverhill man was arraigned for the drive-by murder of another Haverhill man. Eddy Manuel Almonte, 27, pleaded not guilty to murder in Haverhill District Court Monday, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said. He is being held without bail.
Almonte allegedly shot Nike Colon, 20, near City Hall in the early evening of May 17.
Police responded to two 911 calls that day, the first for a gunshot wound near City Hall and a second reporting multiple shots fired near Freeman and Washington streets.

Police responding to the first call found Colon and transported him to the hospital. He was airlifted to a Boston hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police responding to the second call determined Colon was a passenger in a 2008 white Dodge Truck when he was shot around 5 p.m. by someone in a black Honda SUV. Prosecutors said Almonte was the gunman.
Almonte was arrested during an unrelated motor vehicle stop in Winchester, Virginia on May 29. He waived rendition and was returned to Massachusetts on a murder warrant over the weekend.
