At Least It's Not Snow: Heavy Rains on Thursday in North Andover

Heavy rain will fall on Thursday and Thursday night, which could create flooding issues in some areas

Heavy rain will move into North Andover on Thursday and bring an end to a stretch of unseasonable temperatures this week.

It was 77 degrees at 5:45 p.m. in North Andover.

The showers and scattered thunderstorms on Thursday and Thursday night will produce heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm system has included severe weather and prompted some tornado watches to the south and west, but severe weather is not expected with the storm system in New England or Massachusetts.

The rain could just as easily be snow - five years ago this weekend the area saw 1-3 inches of snow on Oct. 18, 2009, according to WHDH-TV meteorologist Jeremy Reiner.

It will be a “strong, slow moving storm” that won’t move in until after the Thursday morning commute. By the end of the evening, 1-2 inches of rain will have fallen, Reiner said.

The heart of the storm will move through during the New England Patriots’ Thursday night game in Foxborough.
