Little Shop of Horrors Weekend Performances

The musical comedy intertwines the lives of a nerdy orphan, a beautiful damsel, a sadistic dentist, and a sassy – and hungry – plant.

The Phillips Academy Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Little Shop of Horrors,” a comedic moral struggle between right and wrong and the search for fame and love.

This production of the musical comedy based on the film by Roger Corman intertwines the lives of a nerdy orphan, a beautiful damsel, a sadistic dentist, and a sassy – and hungry – plant.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31 in Tang Theatre.

Directed by faculty member, Kevin Heelan, and musical direction by faculty member, Abbey Siegfried, Little Shop of Horrors follows the story of Seymour, an orphan who is taken in and given a job by Mr. Mushnik. Set in a Mr. Mushnik’s Flower Shop in urban Skid Row, Seymour spends his time collecting unique plants and pining for the shop assistant, Audrey. While caring for a new unique plant, he discovers the plant also has a unique appetite and the plant soon grows beyond his control.

The cast of Little Shop of Horrors includes Michaela Barczak of Haverhill; Jack Twomey of Reading; and Jason O’Dwyer of Andover. Little Shop of Horrors is assistant music directed by David Benedict, and features original sound design by Scott MacDonald, both of Andover.

Tickets are $10 each for the general public and $5 each with a Phillips Academy I.D. Tickets may be reserved at the school’s box office by calling 978-749-4433.
