MA Man Freed After 30 Years For Rape Charged With Another Rape

LAWRENCE, MA — A Springfield native released from prison in 2016 after serving 30 years for a rape he says he didn't commit has been charged with rape again. George Perrot, 50, is accused of raping an unconscious woman on a sidewalk in Lawrence in January, according to MassLive.

Perrot will be arraigned in Essex Superior Court Monday on charges of rape, open and gross lewdness, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Perrot was 17 in 1985 when he was arrested and charged with raping a 78-year-old Mary Prekop in Springfield. Perrot, whose conviction was based in part on a single strand of hair, was released from prison in 2016 after a judge said he's "reasonably sure" Perrot is innocent and found an FBI agent's testimony about microscopic hair evidence to be flawed.

He has pleaded not guilty to the latest rape charge.
