North Andover Coronavirus Update: 9 New Cases, Testing Thursday

The new totals are announced on a day before rapid molecule testing begins at the AFC Urgent Care in North Andover.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Town officials announced that nine more residents have tested positive for the new coronavirus Wednesday, which takes North Andover’s total of active cases to 117. In addition, 103 people have recovered and 11 residents have died, town officials reported.

All 11 people who died had pre-existing medical conditions, officials said.

The new totals were announced on a day when Gov. Charlie Baker’s order that people older than age 2 must wear face-coverings when in public and in areas – either outdoors or indoors – where social distancing guidelines cannot be followed. By implementing this order, those individuals who may be asymptomatic will be far less likely to transmit the virus and the general public will be much more protected, town officials wrote on their daily online update.

Baker has also ordered non-essential businesses to remain closed and extended the Stay At Home order until May 18. Town buildings around North Hampton will remain closed and are operating remotely, officials said. The town has established a working group that will address how buildings will begin to open once the governor’s order is lifted.

In addition, COVID-19 rapid molecule testing will begin Thursday at the AFC Urgent Care located at 129 Turnpike St. For more information on the testing, call (781) 430-8161.
