North Andover Man Charged with Boating Under the Influence After Boat Sinks

50-Foot Sea Ray sank; all six onboard rescued

. A 50-foot Sea Ray boat, struck a rock between Spectacle Island and the Long Island Bridge shortly after 7 Saturday night.. The boat operator and five passengers were thrown into the front of the boat from the flying bridge. Only minor injuries were reported. Troopers assigned to the State Police Marine Unit responded to the call for help in Boston Harbor just after 7 Saturday night.

Trooper Culver and Trooper Hogan of the Marine Unit were on patrol in the area when the call came in and responded to the area within minutes. The troopers assisted in evacuating the occupants of the boat as it sank.

The operator of the Sea Ray, Paul Boulanger, 44, of North Andover, was arrested and charged with boating under the influence of alcohol.

The Sea Ray sank completely under the water and remained submerged overnight due to the poor night time visibility, according to state police. The recovery operation is scheduled to begin after sunrise on Sunday.
