North Andover Man Sentenced In Beating Of Infant

Jamie Fitzgerald, 21, of North Andover, broke 33 of his daughter's bones when he beat her in 2015.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- Jamie Fitzgerald, 21, of North Andover, was sentenced to and three years probabtion upon release after pleading guilty Friday to two counts of assault assault and battery causing substantial injury. In August 2015, Fitzgerald, then 18, was arrested after beating his one-month-old daughter and breaking 33 of her bones. He was also ordered to have no contact with his daughter and family members, not seek parental rights and complete a parenting class.

According to the Eagle-Tribune, which first reported this story, the girl has fully recovered and is healthy and thriving. After the mother took the girl to a hospital emergency room, police questioned Fitzgerald, who told them he was "rough" in his handling of the baby "but he doesn't mean to hurt her,'' according to a police report.
