North Andover Plastic Bag Reduction Ban To Take Effect

The town has released details on how a single-use plastic bag policy will be implemented.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — The town's plastic bag ban will take effect Jan. 1. Citizens passed the Reduction of Single-Use Plastic Checkout Bags policy at an annual town meeting May 16.

The policy was submitted in a petition by North Andover Citizens for Sustainable Living. The petition passed by a majority vote.

The policy requires any food establishment over 3,000 square feet of finished floor area to eliminate the use of single-use, disposable plastic bags and provide a recyclable checkout bag to customers.

North Andover Citizens for Sustainable Living has some reusable bags available for smaller businesses.
