North Andover School Committee Approves $50 Million Budget

The budget, which still needs to be approved by town meeting, represents a 3.75 percent increase over the current year's spending plan.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- The North Andover School Committee approved the $50.6 million budget proposed by Superintendent Dr. Gregg T. Gilligan. The budget, which still needs to be approved by town meeting, represents a 3.75 percent increase over the current year's spending plan.

The budget includes three new elementary school teachers, a new high school teacher to expand math and science course offerings, and an additional, full-time nurse at North Andover High School. In his executive summary, Gilligan said the increases will help the district keep on pace with reducing class sizes, a key component of its strategic plan.

"Over the last three years we have made significant progress on reducing elementary class size," Gilligan wrote. "The addition of the teacher positions in this recommended budget will further reduce class size at the elementary level."
