North Andover Seeks School Crossing Guards For 2026-27 School Year

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover is accepting applications for a part-time school crossing guard position with the Police Department for the 2026-27 school year.

The position is scheduled for Monday through Friday from August 2026 to June 2027, with hours that vary by location and the school calendar.

The town said the position is 6 to 10 hours per week and pays $19.50 per hour. An annual incentive of up to $1,500, subject to the attendance incentive policy, is available as well.

Crossing guards are responsible for helping children cross safely at designated crosswalks after vehicular traffic has stopped. The job includes using clear hand signals, crosswalk warning lights and available gaps in traffic, and stopping traffic in a safe manner when necessary.

Guards must arrive at their assigned post on time, remain there until their assigned release time and maintain awareness of hazards such as sun glare, uneven terrain, snow, ice and defective traffic signals.

The role also includes keeping up with the school calendar, setting an example of safe crossing behavior for children and documenting vehicles that violate signals or commit moving violations that are hazardous to children.

Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required. Applicants must not be convicted felons, must complete a criminal background investigation successfully and must be able to pass a physical exam.

Successful candidates will also be subject to Criminal/Sex Offender Record Information screening at the state and national levels, along with pre-hire physical and drug testing.

The position reports to the Community Services Officer and requires reliable personal transportation. Work is performed outdoors and includes standing and walking for long periods, often in heat, cold, rain and snow.
