North Andover Senior Center Weekly News Article
April 22nd, 2015
This year for Older American month, the theme is “Get into the Act.” As an older adult, regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can prevent many of the health problems that seem to come with age. It also helps your muscles grow stronger so you can keep doing your day-to-day activities without becoming dependent on others. Not doing any physical activity can be bad for you, no matter your age or health condition. Keep in mind, some physical activity is better than none at all. Your health benefits will also increase with the more physical activity that you do. We challenge you to “Get into the Act” here at the North Andover Senior Center. Our Walking Group meets at the Youth Center, Monday thru Friday from 9-10 AM, athletic shoes are required on the gym floor. Monday morning, rise and shine and “Get into the Act” join Yoga class at 9, followed with a Combo Class at 10:00. At 3:30 you can dance your way through our Zumba Gold classes followed with Zumba Fitness at 4:30. Tuesday morning at 9:00, relax and “Get into the Act” with flowing movement and meditation with the Tai Chi group. On Wednesdays at 3:30 Zumba Gold, followed by 4:30 Zumba Fitness. On Thursdays, at 10:00 “Get in to the Act” with Joy of Exercise and at 4:30 Zumba Fitness. Start your Saturday with Zumba Fitness/Toning at 9:30.
We are gearing up for our women’s forum this week with Dr. Michal.

Dr. Michal’s is an instructor of women’s and gender studies at Merrimack College, where she has served as interim director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. In 2013, Dr. Michals co-authored a permanent exhibit for the National Women’s History Museum entitled “From Ideas to Independence: A Century of Entrepreneurial Women” (http://entrepreneurs.nwhm.org/ ). She is currently completing a book on the rising number of women entrepreneurs and female breadwinners since World War II. Along with writing www.stealthfeminist.com, she is a consultant/editor for higher education publishers, and her work has appeared in academic journals and mainstream publications.
We want to make this an open forum/discussion; conversations around the ongoing gender pay gap, the debates about health insurance/birth control, the cyber-bullying of women such as Emma Watson or Ashley Judd who announce their feminism (male celebs too); and possibly Hillary Clinton’s candidacy.
