North Andover Town Meeting Approves Senior Center
About 200 registered voters participated in town meeting Tuesday night.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA -- Town Meeting approved four articles Tuesday night that clear the way for the construction of a new senior center in North Andover. Separately, Town Meeting approved three other articles that will recreation complex that would include walking and jogging trails, ballfields, playgrounds and an amphitheater near the North Andover Middle School and the Early Childhood Center.
Article 8 was passed to accept a donation of land to build the senior center, and article 10 appropriates about $6 million for the senior center's construction. Articles 23 and 24 were passed rezone the parcel on Sutton Street to clear the way for the senior center's construction.
"It's time we celebrate a community that takes care of its children, and its older adults," Council on Aging member Cynthia Cassille said in support of the four articles.

The passage of Article 9 transfers the land for the recreation complex from the school district to the town, while Articles 11 and 12 appropriate about $7.5 million to fund construction.
All but one of the 29 articles on the warrant passed. Article 22, a citizen petition for traffic-calming measures at the Massachusetts Avenue-Chickering Road intersection, was defeated.
