Obituary: George H. Joynson, Long Career with the U.S. Postal Service

Served in the US Army during the Korean War; awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star

George H. Joynson, Jr., 86, a resident of North Andover passed away on November 8, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Lawrence on August 8, 1928, to the late George H. and Alice (Dane) Joynson.
George was a graduate of Punchard High School. He retired after a long career with the United States Postal Service.
George served in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge as well as the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He returned to his home in Lawrence after his discharge from the Army to work at the A&P and Andover Co-Op grocery stores prior to embarking a career with the USPS.
Later in life George enjoyed traveling, socializing with family and friends, and playing pool, George was married 62 years to his loving wife Claire, and is survived by his son, Robert G. Joynson and his wife, Janet of Clifton, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Parker and David Joynson; his sister, Janice Osgood and her husband Donald of Georgia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m.at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 3rd Street, North Andover, MA. A service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
