Obituary: Mary G. (Walsh) Collins, Administrative Assistant for the Department of Social Services for Many Years

Mary G. (Walsh) Collins, 89, of North Andover, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 with her family by her side. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of William A. and Mary (Griffin) Walsh. She graduated from St. Mary High School and was Class President at St. John’s Nursing School in Lowell.
She worked at Clover Hill Hospital before raising seven children. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant for the Department of Social Services. In her retirement she enjoyed her family, her volunteer work at St. Michael’s Church, knitting, reading, and playing piano.
She was married for 62 years to the late John A. Collins. She is survived by children Noreen (Richard) Mallen of North Andover, Frances (Steven) Short of Windham, NH, John (Sandra Janelle) of Methuen, Ellen (Jay) Merrill of Groveland, Michael (Marie) of Georgetown and Mary (Terence) Collins-Lyman of Salem, NH. She was pre-deceased by daughter Joyce A. (Collins) Rock, son-in-law Peter Rock,and brother William A. Walsh. She is also survived by grandchildren Peter (Amanda Thompson) Rock, Kathryn (Fernando) Colon, Matthew (Stacie) Mallen, Rebecca (Daniel) DeFillippo, Nicole (Samuel) Jackson, Alexis (Patrick) McManamon, Brendan(Sheryl Kane) Short, Sarah (Jeffrey) Shattuck, Eric (Julie Parsons) Collins, Eoin Collins-Lyman (Monique Najjar), Bridget Collins-Lyman, Jason and Nicole Merrill; and great-grandchildren Shawn, Isabella, Brooks, Maeve, Sophia, Giuliana, Jack, Fernando, Marco, and Eryka. She is also survived by a brother Frank Walsh and his wife Claire of Windham, NH and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, December 5, from 4 to 8 pm at Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover, MA.
