Plans Call For New Building, Restaurant Space At North Andover Airport

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A new airport administration building with office and restaurant space is proposed at Lawrence Municipal Airport in North Andover.

The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the project Tuesday, July 21. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 120 Main St.

The Lawrence Municipal Airport Commission is seeking site plan approval for the property at 492 Sutton St., also known as 64 Terminal Road.

Plans call for demolishing the airport’s existing single-story administration building, which dates to the 1950s. A new one-story, 7,069-square-foot building would be constructed on substantially the same footprint.

The building would include airport administration and conference space, offices for tenants and a kitchen and dining area for a future restaurant. The uses are similar to those in the current building, according to the application.

Other work would include rebuilding part of the parking area, reconfiguring vehicle and pedestrian circulation, installing new underground utilities and making drainage and landscaping improvements.

The applicant proposes 46 parking spaces. Town zoning rules would normally require 53 spaces, but the commission is requesting relief that would reduce the office parking requirement. Five spaces would be prepared for future electric vehicle charging.

The commission is also requesting a waiver from a traffic study, arguing that the project would not introduce a new use or significantly change traffic. Access from Sutton Street would remain unchanged.

The property is in the town’s Industrial 2 zoning district.
